A lot of people considering moving to Tacoma from Seattle have questions about the commute. Since (at least initially) folks tend to keep their Seattle (or Bellevue, or Redmond) jobs while living in Tacoma- the topic of how to commute like a boss is always a topic of interest.

Justin works in the tech industry and commutes daily to Bellevue from Tacoma’s North Slope Historic District. “The perception is Tacoma is really far away,” says Justin, “The perception is that it’s really inaccessible and that could not be further from the truth.”

What if I’m commuting to SeaTac Airport, JBLM, or to Seattle?

This is a super common question people moving to Tacoma ask. I’ve written a bunch of blog posts for people commuting (I’ll include some below) but here are the most common commute times from Downtown Tacoma by car:

  • Downtown Seattle – 1 to 1.5 hours in rush hour
  • Olympia – 30 to 45 minutes in rush hour
  • Bellevue – 50 minutes to 1.5 hours in rush hour
  • JBLM – 15 to 30 minutes in rush hour
