The Puget Sound area is of course known for its rainy, gray days, and while some might hate the blah weather, we know plenty of locals who embrace it. Besides, there’s nothing quite like holing up in a cozy bar on a drizzly afternoon with friends to pass the days until summer.
Beat the autumn blahs and the winter blues and check out some of my favorite places to drink in Tacoma when it’s cold and rainy out:

Rhein Haus
The huge fireplace at Rhein Haus is the biggest draw here, and an event spent gathered around the hearth with one of Rhein Haus’s 24 beers on tap is hard to beat. When you’re done with your Bavarian feast, play a round of bocce and putt putt (it’s a super cute course!).

C.I. Shenanigans
Call me old fashioned, but there’s nothing I like more than sitting in one of those old cushy booths at C.I. Shenanigans on the waterfront and sipping on a soothing hot toddy while I watch a storm unfold out on the water.

Doyle’s Public House
The Irish know a thing or two about rain, and here you can keep the Guinness flowing while it pours outside. Doyle’s prides themselves on their extensive whiskey selection (there’s 200+ in their collection), and you can also get a hearty meal here.

En Rama
Tucked away on the main floor on the northern side of Post Hall, this project from Chris Kiel (of 1022 and Hilltop Kitchen fame) offers guests a cozy interior and a menu that’s sure to delight foodies. Order a cocktail and stay awhile!

Dusty’s Hideaway
Located on McKinley in Tacoma’s Eastside neighborhood, Dusty’s is a favorite of locals where you can indulge in comfort foods designed to get you through any gray day you may be having. You’ll find a menu of burgers (including a vegan burger!), sandwiches, salads, and classic “bar food” appetizers here (like tots, onion rings, and fried buffalo cauliflower). You can also get cocktails (in pitchers for the table, too!), beer and shot combos (like a grape cider with peanut butter whiskey, what?!).
