Manifesto Coffee

Neighborhood: Hilltop

Started back in 2016, Manifesto roasts organic, fair trade, single origin beans. Not only can you pick up bags of beans to brew at home, but you can stop by and stay awhile in their coffeeshop (and enjoy a pastry, too).

Bluebeard Coffee Roasters

Neighborhood: 6th Ave

Bluebeard Coffee Roasters has become a Tacoma staple ever since they opened back in 2011. These local roasters pride themselves on buying “the best beans they can source,” and they’re happy to pay “at the top of the market for unique and compelling coffees from throughout Latin America, Indonesia and East Africa, largely.” Coffee nerds can read more about their roasting process here, and everyone who enjoys coffee can buy a bag of beans to take home, and sip on fresh brews in the hip coffee shop part of the roastery.

Valhalla Coffee Co.

Neighborhood: 6th Ave

Started back in 2004, Valhalla has been around long enough to have become a Tacoma classic. Not only can you buy Valhalla’s beans (sustainably sourced, of course!), freshly brewed coffee, and handcrafted beverages at their flagship store on 6th, but you can get your fix and several other locations throughout Tacoma as well.
